What happened to G-Wizard?
G-Wizard was written by Bob Warfield, who founded CNC Cookbook and ran it on his own: he wrote the software, the articles, and answered the customer email himself. Bob passed away suddenly in 2024, and the original CNC Cookbook ceased operations. Fans of the site bought CNC Cookbook from Bob's estate to keep it online, but the G-Wizard source code wasn't part of that, so G-Wizard can't currently be sold, updated, or supported. You can read more in the history of CNC Cookbook.
G-Wizard included:
- G-Wizard Calculator: feeds and speeds for mills, lathes, and CNC routers, plus a set of machinist's reference calculators.
- G-Wizard Editor: a G-code editor and simulator with conversational CNC wizards.
- G-Wizard Estimator: machining time and job quoting.
- G-Wizard Thread Calculator: thread dimensions and tap drills.
What you can use in the meantime
- Free CNC calculators: we've built free, browser-based calculators for many of the jobs G-Wizard handled, including milling, CNC router, lathe, drilling, and tapping speeds and feeds, ISO fits, true position, hardness conversion, and more.
- CutViewer: a free G-code viewer and simulator that runs in your browser, in place of G-Wizard Editor.
- The last G-Wizard release: the final version of G-Wizard Calculator for Windows is still available to download. We can't sell or renew licenses or provide support for it.
- The Feeds and Speeds Guide: Bob's free course on how surface speed, chip load, and chip thinning work.
