I recently saw this chess set by Kelly Fasnacht posted over on the LinkedIn CNC Programming group and thought it wa really neat. What I like best about it is all the pieces can be made on a lathe. The Knight is usually a sticking point that has to be done on a mill, but I like Kelly’s design for it here. He made it back in the 1990’s using only one turning tool with a 15 degree insert. The pieces are made from Aluminum and Bronze.
