I got a nice note from Carlos the other day mentioning how much G-Wizard Calculator had helped him on his CNC Router projects.  I always like to run articles about what customers are doing, and in this case, Carlos has a fascinating project.

He talks about how wood and brass clocks have a hard time being accurate as the materials are subject to changing dimensions as the humidity and temperatures change in the room they’re in.  His solution was to create a microprocessor controlled escapement mechanism.  This lets the electronics adjust the timing of clock to keep it accurate.

He calls the design “Pythagoras” due to the triangular framework used to mount the gears.  He has a multi-part series on the clock on his blog, including a very nice mention of G-Wizard Calculator.

It’s not quite done yet, but definitely taking shape.  I would very much like to do an ornate wooden clock at some point, and I also have designs on a fancy astronomical orrery clock that I have done some design work on.
